Can a rock chip repair be done on the outer edge of a windshield?
The answer is yes. A windshield repair can be done in the outer edge of a windshield. At Glas Tek we use an edge tool to hold our injectors so we can successfully make a repair next to the edge.
Commit.
I called Glas Tek to fix a crack in my windshield. They were very accommodating and polite on the phone. They were able to fix my windshield the next day. The technician that came out was very professional and did a fabulous job. They have the best prices ( I called most all the companies in the phone book ). I would recommend Glas Tek to everyone I know.
How does a windshield break?
The most common is caused by impact, It occurs when a rock or an other object hits the windshield. the less common are either a twist or stress crack, this crack occurs when the windshield is twisted, either by flexing in the vehicles frame or because of improper mounting. it can be helped along by a rock chip in the edge of the windshield. if your windshield ever cracks and there is not a point of impact on the crack it should not be repaired because there is a good chance of another crack starting from the same area, If the vehicle is new take it back to the dealership there is a good chance there is something resting against the glass on the frame like a piece of slag from when the vehicle was manufactured.
Removing tape, sap, adhesives, dirt, etc from windshields
To remove these from your windshield, simply spray any window cleaner, such as Windex, scrape with a straight edge razor blade and wipe off window cleaner and debris with a soft dry towel or paper towel.

Windshield Repair and Rain Sensor
Rain sensor windshields. Several vehicle manufacturers, including Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, are now offering rain sensor windshields. The rain sensor is actually a small electronic device mounted to the inside surface of the windshield. The device has a lens that will detect the presence of moisture on the outside surface of the glass. When moisture is present, a signal is sent to the wiper controls to automatically activate the windshield wipers. This is a great safety option for those misty times when a driver is passing trucks and road spray hits the windshield. The windshield wipers will activate without the need for the driver to remove his hand from the wheel or his eyes from the road.
A windshield repair made in the area of the rain sensor will negatively affect the performance of the sensor. The rain sensor must be able to see clearly through the glass in the area where the sensor is mounted. The sensor depends on the light reflected and transmitted through the glass. A break in the glass where the sensor is mounted will cause the light to scatter as it passes through the glass, making the sensor work improperly. Even after a break is repaired, the repair can cause the light to reflect differently than from unbroken glass, causing the rain sensor to work improperly.

(HUD) Headsup Display in windshields.
A heads up display projects reflections of the instrument panel gauges on the inner lite of the windsheild, just above the dashboard.
The HUD windshield projects information in the lower part of the drivers forward field of view, focused a suitable distance in front of the vehicle to provide easy viewing. This is a major advantage in times of high driver workload in modern high traffic conditions. There are three major portions of the heads up display system the optical projection system the windshield and electronics. The optical projection system creates the image and presents it at the correct angle to the windshield. the windshield is used as a screen which superimposes the display information on the driver's field of view. It works basically on a reflective principle and reflects the projected image back the driver.
The third component is electronics, which interface with the vehicle system. These are the actual elements that are provided in the Hud image such as the vehicle speed, turn signals, and odometer. In the future, the Hud can be used to present alternatives displays such as navigational systems or data collected from roadside beacons and or information from satellites.
Question?
Is it possible for a windshield to be cracked from the opposite side of impact?? The answer is yes, if a windshield cracks from the opposite side of impact it should be replaced the reason for this is the damage has penetrated both layers of glass.
Is Auto glass clear?
Auto glass colors. Although it would appear that auto glass is clear, it really is not. Clear auto glass is almost obsolete. They're over 25 auto glass color options. Color is added when the raw materials of Sand, soda ash and limestone are melted into molten glass during the manufacturing process.
